This is a tale about a family history eclipse by the rise and fall of the mining industry in the south of the Dutch province of Limburg. It illustrates how my great-grandparents moved from Belgium and Germany to the Heerlen area just before World War I and how my parents left the area in the late eighties because of the effects of the mine closures.

This book shows the geographic route that my family has travelled between 1900 and 1990. The tale of a brief history is no evidence for the history of the south of Limburg or my own family history. It is a documentation of the area at the time that I was there. The factual information I gathered during interviews with my grandmother and father became the guiding principle and structure of this tale.
